Domestic fare

I have to point you to a webpage I find hilarious (yes, it was on clickonline sometime last year). Airlinemeals.net does exactly what you think - they show pictures of inflight meal trays... Anyway, this is what one of Turkish Airlines standard domestic options looked like today ("salad or sandwich?").

And now, something COMPLETELY different...!

Efesos! Just a quick peek at the library, to whet your appetite... (for when I have, soon, run out of Egypt photos) We also saw the most awesome ongoing excavations, on the side of the magnificent ruined city. More to come later.

Prosit!

No, I didn't sneeze. I only tried to say Hatshepsut!

Memnon

Now on the West Bank of the Nile. The scope of everything is close on megalomaniac...?

Overlooked by McDonalds!

This speaks for itself, right? Because you do see the looming red-gold sign in the lower picture?

Colonnades inside

Awesome, in my opinion! Very grateful material for impressive evening lighting.

Further inside the temple

Nike

Outside the entrance there is also a small temple to the goddess Nike and a row of sphinxes.

By night

This is the other large worshipping temple in Luxor, the Luxor temple (the others I will show you were tombs). All the pictures here are from the entrance of the temple. Visiting in the evening, with the suggestive lighting gave a very special quality to the experience!

Rituals side by side

Back in Egypt and the Karnak temple...

Circling this scarab is supposed to make your wish come true, and/ or give fertility to your home (depending on the number of turns you take). Guess what our mothers wished for? :-D

I hardly think the shape of the remains of this statue are a coincidence, given the fact that the temple was at one time used for Christian worship!

Six months

Yes, today was the six-month "anniversary" of our wedding and my husband sent me 36 roses (!) for the occasion. Isn't he a darling?

Decorations in Karnak

Back online

after a weeks excursion into real life...! Anyway, will get back to showing more pictures from our wedding trip to Egypt shortly!

Remnants of paint

Not only are the walls covered in carved relief decorations, but what impressed me the most was the hid-away remnants of the colouring that once covered the whole structure. I'd heard of this, but couldn't remember it from earlier visits. But, to my amazement, the remains are found all over - once I began looking - mostly in ceiling scraps.

Colonnades

This hall of pillars is the most breathtakingly majestic part of the temple complex, in my view.

Karnak

I think they said 3000 BCE - could that be right? Well, it is impressive.

More classic hotels

The view from our hotel balcony at the Winter Palace in Luxor!

North again!

Heading north again through the Nile valley, to Luxor.

Details

It is breath-taking...

Unfortunately, I took much fewer closeups of the smaller temple...
