Arab treasures in the north

Swedish media today reports on a find of silver north of Stockholm, with medieval coins from Damaskus and Baghdad.

This is not unusual in Sweden, even if finds are of course few and far between as such. But our history is full of traces of contacts with Arabs early in our history, not least from Gotland and the region around Stockholm. If I find more illustrative links, I will add them.

Here you can see the gold treasures at the Stockholm History Museum, also.

More links: the antiquities Authority press statement, and the Royal Coin Cabinet

Later: Also BBC reports the find tonight.

Saturday: Swedish radio interviews the archaeologist
